Hogsmeade at Dawn

Visiting Hogsmeade might just be one of Harry Potter's favourite thing to do during school years! It's such a nice break going (sometimes under the Cloak of Invisibility) to the village for a relaxing day. Whether it's to have an awkward date with Cho Chang, or have their very first D.A. meeting initiated by Hermione, Hogsmeade visits are always eventful, or at least filled with the best Honey Duke's candies. Hogsmeade is the only all-wizarding village in Britain. Hogwarts third years and above have been permitted weekend trips into the village. Mainly, students frequent the High Street in the village which contains the named specialty shops and pubs such as Zonko's Joke Shop and Honeydukes. Where do you want to visit first?? Valentine's Day at Madame Puddifoot's

Cho Chang: "Oh, there's a really nice place just up here; haven't you ever been to Madam Puddifoot's?" Well, if you are into that kind of places, what's a better time to come here than Valentine's Day? **CLICK TO VIEW MORE** Madam Puddifoot's was a small tea shop located on a side road off the High Street at Hogsmeade. The decoration was very tacky and frilly. The windows steamed up and the gaudy tables and chairs were all claimed by teenagers holding hands or kissing over cups of tea and coffee. A bell over the door announced customers in a tuneful tinkle; the round tables were decorated with lacy napkins and china sugar bowls, and cramped up the small shop to the point that Madam Puddifoot has great difficulty in moving in between tables to serve the couples. While Cho Chang thought the place was nice and cute, Harry Potter was not fond of the appearance nor atmosphere, as it reminded him uncomfortably of Dolores Umbridge's office. On Valentine's Day, the tearoom was decorated with golden cherubs hovering over each of the tables, which occasionally threw pink confetti over the people sitting below them. Well...I don't blame him, that could be annoying... Still, it is not bad to sit here for a cup of strong tea during a cold, February afternoon before it gets crowded. The tea and small biscuits are tasty, and can you smell the freshly baked muffins? Oh no it starts to rain, better sit back with a book and enjoy the warmth. YOU SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT U-NO-POO — THE CONSTIPATION SENSATION THAT'S GRIPPING THE NATION!" —Sign outside Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, also known as Weasley & Weasley, is a joke shop located at Number 93 Diagon Alley founded by Fred and George Weasley. The shop contains practical joke objects, such as Extendable Ears, a Reusable Hangman, Skiving Snackboxes, and Fred and George's special WonderWitch products, such as; Love Potions, Ten-Second Pimple Vanishers, and Pygmy Puffs. There is also a section of Muggle Magic Tricks "for freaks like Dad", which are said to do steady business, despite not being big sellers. The shop also sells a number of defensive magical objects. This establishment started out as an 'owl-post service' led by the twins from the Burrow, (later continued from Hogwarts), selling joke-products until the final shop was opened. The shop was the Weasley twins' dream. The seed money for the shop was Harry Potter's Triwizard Tournament winnings. Library/Study Hall

The Study Hall is a room in Hogwarts Castle where students usually do their homework or study for their exams. It is overseen by Madam Pince. This room may have been part of the library or in close proximity to it, because books were available for study in this room and because Madam Pince oversaw the study hall. In 1992, several students were studying here when Nearly Headless Nick and Justin Finch-Fletchley were attacked by the basilisk. Harry Potter had left the room before the attack and, because of that, he became one of the suspects of opening the Chamber of Secrets. By 1994, students may have stopped using this room, as, on at least one occasion, study took place in the Great Hall, overlooked by Severus Snape, another Professor, and several other faculty members. Astronomy Tower

The Astronomy Tower is the tallest tower at Hogwarts Castle. It is where students study the stars and planets through their telescopes in Astronomy lessons with Professor Aurora Sinistra. This is usually done at midnight, when the stars are best seen. The tower is generally out-of-bounds except for classes. The tower is the tallest in Hogwarts, it lies almost directly above the front doors of the castle. The tower is also surrounded by a parapet and is tall enough to have a perfect view of the starry sky. When the Death Eaters arrived at Hogwarts, most of the Battle of the Astronomy Tower between the opposing sides took place in this tower, and in the corridor below. Death Eaters set off the Dark Mark above this tower; Albus Dumbledore was (spoiler) blasted from the tower's ramparts by a Killing Curse cast by Severus Snape. This was where Dumbledore met his death, by his own orders. Gryffindor Common Room

Gryffindor Tower which consists of the Gryffindor Common Room, serves as the living quarters for students in Gryffindor House at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In general, it sports several shades of red and gold. The fireplace mantle is adorned with a portrait of a lion (associated with the house). The common room is a circular room where Gryffindor students can relax after a long day of studying. It is full of squashy armchairs, tables, and a bulletin board where school notices, ads, lost posters, etc. can be posted. The common room is decorated in several shades of red, which is associated with the house. The common room is comfortable, but not more comfortable than the Hufflepuff basement. There are many windows that look out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace dominates one wall. The mantle of the fireplace is adorned with a portrait of a lion. They can also be short-tempered. Notably, Gryffindor house contributed many members to Dumbledore's Army and the Order of the Phoenix, although this may have been because the main members made it a point not to associate with other houses. According to Phineas Nigellus Black, members of other houses, particularly Slytherin, sometimes feel that Gryffindors engage in "pointless heroics." Ravenclaw Common Room

Ravenclaw is one of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, founded by Rowena Ravenclaw. Members of this house are characterised by their wit, learning, and wisdom. Its house colours are blue and bronze, and its symbol is an eagle. The house ghost, who in life was the daughter of the house's founder Rowena Ravenclaw, is the Grey Lady. Ravenclaw corresponds roughly to the element of air; the House colours blue and bronze were chosen to represent the sky and eagle feathers respectively, both having much to do with air. Slytherin Common Room

"Our emblem is the serpent, the wisest of creatures; our house colours are emerald green and silver, and our common room lies behind a concealed entrance down in the dungeons. As you’ll see, its windows look out into the depths of the Hogwarts lake. We often see the giant squid swooshing by — and sometimes more interesting creatures. We like to feel that our hangout has the aura of a mysterious, underwater shipwreck." The Slytherin Dungeon, also known as the Slytherin Common Room, serves as the common room for students in Slytherin house at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In general, it sports several shades of green and the mantle is adorned with a portrait of a serpent (all associated with the house). "The Slytherin common room was a long, low underground room with rough stone walls and ceiling, from which round, greenish lamps were hanging on chains. A fire was crackling under an elaborately carved mantelpiece ahead of them, and several Slytherins were silhouetted around it in carved chairs." The common room is a dungeon-like room with greenish lamps and chairs. This dungeon extends partway under the lake, giving the light in the room a green tinge. The common room has lots of low backed black and dark green button-tufted, leather sofas; skulls; and dark wood cupboards. It is decorated with tapestries featuring the adventures of famous Medieval Slytherins. It has quite a grand atmosphere, but also quite a cold one. The password to the common room changes every fortnight, and it is posted on the noticeboard. Slytherin students are warned never to bring students from other houses into the common room, or to reveal the password. Hufflepuff Common Room

"It is round and earthy and low-ceilinged; it always feels sunny, and its circular windows have a view of rippling grass and dandelions. There is a lot of burnished copper about the place, and many plants, which either hang from the ceiling or sit on the windowsills. Our Head of house, Professor Pomona Sprout, is Head of Herbology, and she brings the most interesting plant specimens (some of which dance and talk) to decorate our room – one reason why Hufflepuffs are often very good at Herbology. Our overstuffed sofas and chairs are upholstered in yellow and black, and our dormitories are reached through round doors in the walls of the common room. Copper lamps cast a warm light over our four-posters, all of which are covered in patchwork quilts, and copper bed warmers hang on the walls, should you have cold feet." The Hufflepuff Basement serves as the Hufflepuff Common Room at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In general, it sports several motifs, such as circles, nature, copper and the colours yellow and black (all associated with the house). It also emphasises comfort, said to be "the cosiest common room of them all". It is at one floor below the ground and is very sheltered from the elements, generally allowing students to sleep easier than those in the towers (like Gryffindor and Ravenclaw). The actual basement itself is round, earthy, low-ceilinged, welcoming, warm, and sunny. There are lots of yellow hangings, burnished copper, and overstuffed sofas and armchairs upholstered in yellow and black, and circular windows that provide a vista of "rippling grass and dandelions". There is also a large, honey coloured, wooden mantelpiece with carvings of badgers on it. This is located underneath a portrait of the house's founder, Helga Hufflepuff. The head of house, Pomona Sprout, also teaches Herbology and as such brings many interesting plants in to decorate the common room (some of which dance and talk), placing them on the windowsills or having them hang from the ceiling, encouraging interest in Herbology (and hence part of why Hufflepuffs tend to be good at it). The Shrieking Shack is an abandoned house in Hogsmeade. For many years, villagers thought it was haunted because they often heard screams coming from inside...**CLICK TO VIEW MORE** The Shrieking Shack was an abandoned house, with the windows and doors boarded up. It actually has no working doors or windows that allow entry or exit of the premises. The entrance is through a tunnel under the Whomping Willow on Hogwarts's school grounds, allowed Remus Lupin (and James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black) to pass between the two locations unnoticed (as Animagi or Werewolf). Ron, Harry and Hermione found out about this in a very unpleasant first meeting with Sirius Black as a huge black dog... But even as scary as this place is, Sirius found shelter in it when he was on the run, and in a snowy cold late fall night like this, maybe you can find a little comfort in front of the warm fireplace as well? Great Hall Study Session

"It was lit by thousands and thousands of candles that were floating in midair over four long tables, where the rest of the students were sitting. These tables were laid with glittering golden plates and goblets. At the top of the hall was another long table where the teachers were sitting [...] The hundreds of faces staring at them looked like pale lanterns in the flickering candlelight [...] Harry looked upward and saw a velvety black ceiling dotted with stars [...] It was hard to believe there was a ceiling there at all, and that the Great Hall didn't simply open on to the heaven." The Great Hall in the Hogwarts Castle is the main gathering area in the school, which is located off the Entrance Hall. The Great Hall is the main place where students receive their meals and daily owl post. They also have certain special events, such as the Sorting Ceremony and the Hallowe'en Feast. The large hall has enough space to hold every student, as well as the main staff and guests. The Hall has tall walls that reach up to the ceiling, which is covered with candles and enchanted to look like the sky above. At the front of the hall is the staff table, also known as the High Table, which is designed to house the entire Hogwarts staff. In the centre of the table is a throne chair where the present Headteacher sits. At the left of the table is a door which leads a chamber with portraits. The Great Hall has also held many important events, such as the defeat of Lord Voldemort, ending the Battle of Hogwarts and the climatic end of the Second Wizarding War. Magical Suitcase

Newton "Newt" Scamander, O.M. (Second Class), was a famed Magizoologist and author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He owns a magical suitcase, bewitched with an Undetectable Extension Charm, in which he held a number of beasts while he traveled. **CLICK TO VIEW MORE** He could hide the contents from Muggles by flipping a switch on the case. The suitcase contains its own magically expanded world with many different habitats for each creature. It also contains a shed for Newt. It is a small utility shed located inside and served as the entrance to his magically-expanded suitcase. It was here that Newton Scamander kept his equipment, books and notes to assist in taking care of his collection of magical beasts. Dear traveler, did you accidentally fall into Newt's magical suitcase? Or are you his friend, visiting for the first time? Make yourself at home either way, I know Newt wouldn't mind. Malfoy Manor, a handsome manor house grew out of the darkness at the end of the straight drive, lights glinting in the diamond-paned windows. Probably the grandest room of the house, it had ceilings 30 feet high, two chandeliers, and a pipe organ at one end. Diagon Alley

When snow falls onto the cobble stoned streets of Diagon Alley, close your eyes and breathe in the cool, fresh, full-of-magic night air. Lights shine warm and bright behind the mostly closed store windows, I wonder what secrets and stories lay behind them? Fireworks erupt from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, can you smell the smoke and hear children's exciting laughter? Gringotts Wizarding Bank is already closed, but why is there a goblin looking suspiciously out of the window...was that a roar of the underground dragon? Hidden behind the wizard pub called Leaky Cauldron, Diagon Alley has an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other many magical sights. All items on the Hogwarts supply list can be bought here. It is completely hidden from the Muggle world which is right outside of its boundaries. It is very large and essentially the center of wizarding London. Dark Forest

The Forbidden Forest, also known as Dark Forest borders the edges of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry grounds. It is a very old place that holds many secrets and houses many creatures, some dark and dangerous, others friendly. **CLICK TO VIEW MORE** As the forest's name suggests, it is strictly off limits to students — except in the case of detention, or Care of Magical Creatures lessons that occasionally take place here with Hagrid's supervision. Harry, Ron and Hermione were forced to enter this dangerous forest on more occasions than they'd like, and each time it was a thrilling adventure. Someone or something is lurking behind the trees, and why are there Dementors gliding around? Maybe the Centaurs will help but they chose to watch in silence... No need to call for the Thestrals either, look, they are already here drew by the rusty sweet smell of your bloody wounds... But dear traveler, don't be afraid. Your kindness, love and courage is your protection. Room Ambiance

The Fat Lady portrait swung forward to reveal a round hole in the wall. They all scrambled through it — and found themselves in the Gryffindor common room, a cozy, round room full of squashy armchairs. **CLICK TO VIEW MORE** The common room, in Gryffindor Tower, is a circular room where Gryffindor students can relax after a long day of studying. It is full of squashy armchairs, tables, and a bulletin board where school notices, ads, lost posters, etc. can be posted. The common room is decorated in several shades of red, which is associated with the house. Harry, Ron and Hermione can often be found here, hanging out, playing Wizard chess or studying, wouldn't you want to join them? The Three Broomsticks

"The Three Broomsticks and I go way back, further than I care to admit. I can remember when it was One Broomstick!" Horace Slughorn jokingly said... **CLICK TO VIEW MORE** Three Broomsticks Inn is a very popular, warm and cozy pub in Hogsmeade village. Harry, Ron and Hermione usually go there during their visits to the village, and a glass of comforting, smooth Butter Beer was their favorite! They often run into other school mates and many teachers there, like Hagrid, Prof. Slughorn, Prof Flitwick and Prof. McGonagall. Harry did his exclusive interview with Rita Skeeter here along with Luna Lovegood, which got him into loads of trouble with Umbridge. Don't you just love Madam Rosmerta? The beautiful, fierce owner has been managing the Three Broomsticks Inn for many years, since Harry Potter's father - James Potter and his friends were at Hogwarts. What I wouldn't do to get a mug full of her home-made mulled mead! Or maybe you would like a glass of gillywater, or maybe a shot of fire whiskey? ;) The pub is a little empty at the moment, but a big wave of people will come soon from Hogwarts...Can you hear the cooks preparing dinner, or Madam Rosmerta's hearty laughs?
